Winning young people to Jesus Christ, maturing those who are already Christians, and showing that you can be a Christian and have fun are all part of the mission of Youth Camps For Christ, Inc. We will soon complete another exciting year of serving children and youth through Camp Willow Run (CWR). This year 2,400 campers attended our summer camps and we were blessed to be full for each week of camp. We have continued to place campers on waiting lists because of lack of space at CWR. Our desire is to be able to serve all young people who want to attend one of our summer camps.

To be able to serve these young people, we must complete the construction of Phase One of Camp Willow Springs (CWS). We have seen continued development progress during 2011. The construction of two duplex dorms has been completed. Each dorm is 2,100 square feet and contains bathrooms and sleeping accommodations for 20 campers. There is an activity/meeting room in each dorm. During the summer, the CWS shoreline was protected with rock. We are now in the permitting phase for the camp water system. This system will allow county water to the CWS site. Also, construction of the camp office and health care center has begun and these buildings will be completed early next year.

As we look to 2012, our greatest area of need is to raise the funds for the construction of the dining hall and pool. The inside of this brochure is dedicated to sharing pictures and details of the CWS dining hall. We would love to have you partner with us to see this building completed. The current cost of Phase One is approximately $6.5 million. There is a remaining need of $2.9 million to complete Phase One. This will allow us to open Camp Willow Springs in 2013.

We ask that you faithfully pray for us and the provision of the funds needed to complete Phase One of CWS. Please pray that the Lord will put us in contact with those who would be willing to financially invest in a project that will make a difference in the lives of thousands of children. Also, we ask that you prayerfully consider an end-of-year gift to the campaign for Camp Willow Springs. This can be a financial gift used towards construction of the dining hall or other buildings, a gift of building materials, or a naming opportunity for a building. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your partnership with this ministry.

Executive Director Director of Operations & Development

We just wrapped up our 21st Fall Mother-Daughter Legacy Retreat at Camp Willow Run. There were 73 Moms and 83 middle school, high school and college daughters who participated in this unique and special week-end. Our speaker has a heart for leading young women and their Moms to understand what it means to find completion in Christ. It was an amazing time of spiritual renewal, new friendships, recreation, laughter, worship in song and through the Word of God, and spending time together as Mothers and daughters in the beautiful location at Lake Gaston!

Camp Willow Run can readily host Mother-Daughter, Father-Son and Super High retreats….times that we thoroughly enjoy planning and leading. The new, duplex dorms at Camp Willow Springs will give us new ways to serve guest groups. What a blessing it will be to have more and more ministry opportunities!

However, the pressing need is for expanding our summer camping outreach. We are truly at a defining time in the commitment to develop Camp Willow Springs. For 43 years we have witnessed the difference this ministry makes in the lives of our children and teenagers, their families, churches, schools and throughout their communities. It is an honor to minister to 2400 campers each summer through Camp Willow Run. Now is the time to complete Phase 1 of Camp Willow Springs development and open the doors to the hundreds turned away each summer due to lack of space.

We are coming to the end of 2011 and preparing for a full, exciting 2012. On-going construction continues on the Camp Willow Springs site with dorms, the office and health care center. At this time, our target date for opening for summer sessions will be 2013. In order to do this, the dining hall and the swimming pool must be built. Our contractor will need to allow nine months for construction of the dining hall. The contractor for the pool will need approximately four months. In order to make this a reality, financial gifts and in-kind gifts are needed. This is a task that we can complete together in behalf of our children.

Together…..for our children…to God’s glory. Your prayerful consideration of an end-of-year gift will help sustain the construction process, and will, in turn, be a blessing for today’s children and the generations yet to come.

Please contact us with any questions or a request for an opportunity to talk further. Thank you.

Robbie Harris, Director of Operations and Development

September 5, Jeremy Davis and I decided to take a boat ride around the lake. As we departed we experienced some rain but decided we were going to make the best of the trip regardless. A couple of hours later we put the boat away and while walking up the hill towards my truck, Jeremy told me to turn around and look up. What I saw was a beautiful rainbow. It was only fitting that the rainbow rest over the property at Camp Willow Springs. This rainbow seemed to be full of color and meaning. The rainbow cast its color in a semi-circle, starting at the trees and fading back into the trees. A beginning and an end. This reminded me of the summer, beginning to end, it was filled with many laughs, lives, stories, prayers, families, children, fun times, and many colors… just like the beauty of a rainbow.

On Tuesday, August 23, we felt the earthquake from the Louisa epicenter just north of Richmond, Virginia. There was no damage at camp from the mild tremors felt here, but it was unsettling. Then Hurricane Irene arrived on the North Carolina coast on Saturday, impacting all of the coastal and inland regions within four hours of the beaches in our State, as it moved up the eastern seaboard.

Amazingly, Camp Willow Run sustained no damage to buildings, no flooding, and minimal challenges. We had loss of power until Monday, but the emergency generator kept our dining hall equipment and water well operational. To be expected, debris was everywhere and we lost a number of trees. The fallen limbs and other debris have already been cleaned up. The fallen trees will soon be removed

The buildings at Camp Willow Springs had no damage. They, too, withstood the storm.

We all know that millions of lives have been turned inside-out. So many areas along the eastern seaboard have experienced devastation beyond comprehension. Our thoughts and prayers are with so many who face weeks, months and even years getting their lives back to some degree of ‘normalcy’.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our camper families who experienced this storm and the earthquake. Our prayer is for your well-being and safety in the midst of any restoration and challenges you may be facing.

Executive Director
